"The objective of the service vouchers? To reduce undeclared work and bring low-skilled people out of unemployment. Both goals of the service vouchers seem to be achieved, according to a study conducted by the KU Leuven."

Domestic workers are an important component of our society. The system of service cheques is a win-win-win for the government, clients and domestic workers.

"Domestic workers deserve our utmost respect", says Minister Hilde Crevits

This is what Minister of Work Hilde Crevits said when she announced that consumers who are breaking the corona measures could receive a sanction. In this way, she wants to make it possible for service voucher personnel to take action when safety measures are not met in their working environment. In case of a first violation, the consequence can be a maximum of a one-year suspension. In case of a repeated violation, the suspension can go up to five years.

What are service vouchers and how should you use them?

A service voucher is a voucher that you can use to buy household services. In Belgium, the system was introduced in 2004, mainly to reduce undeclared work. In addition, the system is also a good incentive to get low-skilled people out of unemployment on the labor market.

This system did not miss its purpose. In the domestic work sector, there is hardly any undeclared work, and more people than ever are happy that they can use a service voucher to relieve themselves.
